Welcome from Mrs Cresswell

We have been very impressed with how well the children have continued to settle into their class routines since the beginning of term. It is always a delight to see so many children coming into school so confidently and ready to learn. Please remember that staff are always available to help if your child is finding coming to school slightly more difficult at the moment.

We have a number of events to look forward to over the next few weeks including parent consultations, Macmillan Coffee afternoon, class assemblies and our first church service (Harvest Festival) of this academic year at St Paul’s church.

As we move into Autumn please send your child to school with a hooded raincoat. Physical Health is a crucial part of our curriculum and it is important for your children’s learning for them to be outside and moving every day despite the weather.

Curriculum information

Please make sure you read your child’s year group curriculum information leaflet which can be found in the Year Groups tab on the school website. The leaflet is a good way to find out what your child will be learning this term and how they can be supported at home.

Important Evacuation Information

For your information it is my duty to let you know that, in the unlikely event that we have to evacuate the school site, the children would be taken to St Paul’s Church/Church Hall and we would notify all parents/carers immediately by text. Please ensure that you email any change of contact details to office@st-pauls.enfield.sch.uk to ensure that we always have the correct information on our systems.

Nuts in school

This is a gentle reminder for all that we are a nut-free zone. Please do not send in any items that contain any form of nut as we have a number of children who are allergic to them.

PE Kits and PE Days

We would like children to come into school wearing their PE kit on the days that they are taking part in outdoor PE. This will help all children to benefit from an increased amount of teaching and learning time during PE lessons. PE kits will still be needed at school on other days so please ensure they are returned to school the following day.

Lateness

We still have a number of children arriving to school late, please make sure your child is in school by 8:55am. Ideally it would be lovely to see all of our children in school at 8:45am, this gives the children a chance to complete early work during the soft start and also prevents any unnecessary stress or anxiety to your child, which can happen when children are late into class.

School places for September 2023

Parents are now able to apply for places for the Reception year 2023. The deadline for applying via the online portal at https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/ is 15 January 2023. Supplementary Information Forms (SIFs) also need to be completed in full and returned to Mrs Zmajkovic by 6 February 2023. Please remember that SIFs should only be returned after 8 January 2023 so that church attendance can be confirmed by your minister/faith leader up to that date.

Macmillan

A reminder that we will be holding our Macmillan Coffee morning in the school hall next Friday (30^th September) between 1.45-3.00pm.

Please do join us if you can to help support this worthwhile charity and it's not too late to let Mrs Zmajkovic know if you'd like to volunteer! Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered.

Harvest Festival

This year we will be holding our Harvest Festival service at St Paul’s church on Thursday 6 October for children in Years 1 - 6 at 9.00am. We warmly invite parents/carers to join us. Parents are asked to drop their child/children at the church between 8.45am – 8.55am, so they are seated in their pews ready for the service to begin at 9.00am. Each class has two pews which are clearly labelled. Class teachers will be at the church by 8.45am to settle the children. If you have to drive please do not use the church car park to drop off. Instead we suggest you park on one of the nearby side roads, respectful of local residents’ driveways, and walk the last part of your journey. At the end of the service the children will walk back to school accompanied by school staff.

We are supporting the North Enfield Foodbank again this year. The foodbank provides food and support to local people in crisis – please click here for suggested items.

Please could each year group send in the following items from Wednesday 28 September:

Reception Tinned fruit

Year 1 UHT milk – red / green / blue and powdered milk

Year 2 Jam / marmalade / honey

Year 3 Tinned spaghetti hoops / spaghetti in sauce

Year 4 Sweet and savoury snacks

Year 5 Pulses – lentils, beans, chickpeas

Year 6 Tinned puddings – rice pudding / custard

The Foodbank also welcomes donations of all non-perishable foodstuffs, toiletries and babies’ nappies.

Parent Consultations

Parent Consultations take place next week, Tuesday 27^th and Wednesday 28^th September. Please contact the school office if you have been unable to book an appointment. We'd like to thank you all for your patience and for bearing with the bumps along the way - all glitches have been reported to our website designers.

We will be using Microsoft Teams for these meetings and you will be sent a link prior to your meeting. If you haven't received your Teams invitation on the day of your appointment please contact Mrs Zmajkovic by clicking on schoolbusinessmanager@st-pauls.enfield.sch.uk.

Your children’s books will come home with them the evening before your appointment to allow you to have an opportunity to view the work they have been completing in class. Please remember to return books the following day as they will be needed in school.

Individual photos / sibling photos

Individual and sibling photographs will take place on the 20^th October.

Please make sure that you have completed the Google Form sent out earlier this week to either give or deny consent. Please remember that we cannot let your child participate if we haven't received consent. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by contacting the school office.

Census Day

Thursday 6th October is national School Census Day. All children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals and we would be grateful if you would encourage your child to have a school lunch on this day as it impacts on our funding.

Awards

We have changed our weekly award system this term. Instead of a Tigger award your child will have the opportunity to receive a Star award. This works alongside our vision strapline of ‘Shine like Stars in the world'. Parents will still be invited to Friday morning collective worship if their child receives 3 Star awards during a term.

Each week we are also celebrating those children who have shown good manners towards their peers and adults.

Phonics meeting – Reception parents

On 6^thOctober at 4.00pm we are hosting a short meeting to explain how we teach phonics. Miss Simou and Mrs Holder will go through the phonics scheme and also share some tips for supporting your child with reading at home.

Choir

Choir will start next Thursday for years 4, 5 and 6 from 3.30pm-4.30pm. The session on Thursday will be led by a former St Paul’s pupil, Nick Beecroft. Nick is an extremely talented musician. If your child has previously been in choir or is in year 4 and would like to try the session next Thursday please let Mrs Diamondi know.

Open mornings

Open mornings for prospective parents are available on:

All open mornings start at 9.15am and we aim to finish them by 10.15am.

In order to minimise disruption, we ask that prospective parents/carers do not bring babies and toddlers as the tour involves walking around the school.

Please also remember that, for safeguarding purposes, prospective parents/carers should not take any photos.

Year 6 Secondary transfer evening

A reminder that we will be holding a secondary transfer meeting on Thursday 29^th September at 5pm in the school hall. This meeting is for Year 6 parents only.

A Plea from the School Office

Please include your child's class when you email or call in. It helps ensure that messages are passed on quickly, especially during busy times.

A reminder that if you need to contact the school after 12 noon with a change to your child's pick up arrangements you phone rather than email the office to ensure that the message is passed along.

Behaviour policy

We continue to focus on the importance of behaviour of all the children in the school. We have updated our behaviour policy which we will be sharing with the children next week. The policy can be found here. Please make sure you read this important document so that the school and parents can continue to work together in this area.

School Street

The School Street continues to work extremely well providing a much calmer environment for the start and end of the day. I would like to thank our parents who have volunteered to oversee one of the gates. Ideally, we would like two volunteers on each gate, so if anyone could support us further, and would be willing to give up 30 minutes of their time once a week, it would be greatly appreciated. Please email Mr Crouch alvincrouch@st-pauls.enfield.sch.uk. We are particularly short of volunteers on a Tuesday.

FOSPS (Friends of St Paul's School)

The FOSPS is an integral part of the school community. It has been a tremendous source of help and support to the school over the years, both in terms of fundraising and social activities, and assisting at school events and with various projects.

Over the last 5 years FOSPS has raised a total of £230,000 which has enabled St Paul’s to fund valuable resources used and enjoyed by all. These resources include:

iPads and laptops
Reading scheme books
English & Maths classroom resources
Running track
Playground apparatus
Arts Week, Science Week, Spanish Day
Music tuition

They are grateful to all parent/carers who find time to help during their busy lives. As you can appreciate however, they need a strong team of volunteers to commit to keep it functioning.

If you feel you are able to support the FOSPS in any way please contact your class rep. The FOSPS AGM takes place on the 6^th October at 8pm in the school hall.

Outdoor Cinema

Thank you to everyone who came to the outdoor cinema. The children seemed to have a fantastic time! There was a great atmosphere and we took over £1,000 on the bar and food stalls, which is amazing! Thank you for all your support.

St Paul’s Golden Balls

Submit your winners and score predictions for a cross-section of 19 sporting events starting with cricket in October 2022 to golf in July 2023, and some football, tennis, F1, basketball, snooker, horse racing, rowing, rugby, Super Bowl and handball in between. (Google is allowed to help your predictions!) Points are given for each correct (or nearly correct) answer.
