Another Arts Week Success Story!
It has been such a busy week at St Paul’s with our celebration of the Arts. We have had a huge range of outside agencies and artists coming into our school to share their expertise and offer workshops. All classes have had a West African Drumming workshop, a dance workshop, a drama workshop and an art workshop run by outside artists: withy sculpture, felt-making, chicken wire sculpture, printmaking, and ceramics. On Thursday, the teachers also ran their own mixed arts workshops. Below is a taster of some the activities and outcomes to whet your appetite. More will follow after half-term.

Reception's Dance Performance Workshop
Reception had a brilliant time taking part in a dance performance workshop as part of Arts week. They danced using their faces and bodies but couldn’t use their mouths to talk. They found a partner and practised the poses: hands together, elbow to elbow, knee to knee, foot to foot, and back to back. They also went on a journey around the world; they got in a plane and strapped on their seatbelts and visited Kenya, India, Ukraine, France, Scotland and practised their national dances. Finally the children put on a performance showing all the dances they had learnt.

Year 1's Busy Bricks Workshop
Year 1 took part in a workshop entitled ‘Busy Bricks’. After learning a little about how architects design buildings, the children were tasked with creating the tallest structure they could using Lego bricks.

|
Year 1's Dance and Drama Workshops
Year 1 also took part in fantastic dance and drama worshops. Children learnt traditional movements from countries all around the world. They also enjoyed playing games that focussed on using different voices, movement and using great imagination!

Year 4's Singing and Acting Workshop with Miss Lundy
We started by warming up our voices and bodies. Then, we watched some of Moana to focus on Moana’s emotional journey at the beginning of the movie. After, we learned the song and created dance moves for it in small groups. Finally, we took part in a group singing/dance piece and got to perform for others

World Book Day
World Book Day's mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success. At St Paul’s we also want to see all our pupils enjoy a life-long habit of reading for pleasure. Every year on World Book Day we are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of our school community. We don’t want our celebrations to be an additional burden on the environment or financially for families so please recycle previous costumes or visit the FOSPS’ second hand costume sale taking place from 3pm on Thursday 22 February in the school car park.

Parking
I have received another email from a local resident with a photo of a car parked over their drive. It is apparent that the owner is a parent at the school. The car registration number is WK13 NKS. Please think carefully and show consideration when parking near school.

Collective Worship Committee News
Last week was a busy week for the Committee. Andrea, Lara, Matilda and Florence led the whole school in worship on Friday morning. The theme was our uniqueness and awe and wonder at the creation. Although they were nervous beforehand, they really enjoyed talking in front of the children and seeing their ‘wow’ faces. They said, “At the start it was a bit nerve wracking but, once we got into it, it really flowed.” They did brilliantly.
Other members of the committee represented St Paul’s at the LDBS service at St Paul’s Cathedral, which celebrated the family of more than 100 Church schools. The service was led by Bishop Lusa, Bishop of Willesden and Dr Krish Kandiah OBE and explored the theme of reconciliation and diversity.

Sports News!
Children have been taking part in lots of sporting events in the last couple of weeks. It has been great so many people getting involved.
We have had two girls football team competing in different tournaments. Both played very well and displayed some excellent skills and sportsmanship.
The boys football team also took part in the Premier League Primary stars competition. They won some of their games but unfortunately didn’t make it through to the next round.
The netball team went to Enfield County School to compete in a High 5 competition.
Lastly, there was a Tag rugby tournament where children took part in some matches, most of them for the first time. They improved massively throughout the afternoon and won some of their games whilst playing some excellent rugby.
There are lots more sporting fixtures taking place after half term. There is also a tag rugby club taking place before school on a Monday morning for Year 5 and 6. This will start at 8am. Children should come to school in their sports kit ready to start and then can change into their uniforms afterwards. Anybody is welcome to come along - there is no permission slip to sign just turn up if you want to give it a go. Teams for upcoming matches will be selected from these training sessions.
