Collective Worship
This half term, clergy led worships on Mondays are based on Parables. So far, the children have learnt about the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son and the Unforgiving Servant. The Clergy have been linking the teachings to the school vision and pupils’ lives.
Other collective worships which take place throughout the week are following the London Diocesan Board of Schools cycle of Collective worship based around themes from the Bible readings in Church each week. Here are some suggested questions and prayers which you may wish to use with your children at home.
Themes drawn from Hebrews 9:24-28 and Mark 1:14-20
- Jesus as priest and sacrifice.
- Repentance – putting right those things we are sorry about and starting afresh.
- (Atonement, At-one-ment, the belief that people are separated from God by sin, atonement works to restore the relationship between people and God)
Questions:
When was the last time you said sorry? How did you feel before and after?
Have you ever had to say sorry and then try to put something right? What happened?
When was the last time you forgave someone who wronged you? Did you find it easy or difficult? Why?
Have you ever made a fresh start at something? What did you do?
If God offered you a fresh start would you accept?
Challenge:
Buy, make or draw a poppy this week. Red poppies are for remembrance and support families and service personnel who have been injured or suffered loss. White poppies are to support work for peace.
Prayer:
Lord God, we pray for peace in our world. May we be peacemakers in our communities. Thank you for the fresh start that you offer us. Amen.

- Jesus’ death on the cross reconciled people to God.
- Encouraging others to live well.
- Hope in troubled times.
Questions:
Who encourages you to do good, to be the best version of you? What do they do or say?
Which troubles that you hear or see in the news worry you most?
Christians believe that one day God will restore things to how he originally intended. What would you look forwards to being made new?
Challenge:
Encourage someone this week to do good.
Talk to someone about your worries or fears.
Prayer:
Loving Father God, I bring before you the things that trouble me _______________. I thank you that I can trust you. Help me to show loving kindness to the people I meet this week. Amen

• The clothes you wear?
• The food you eat?

• The way you behave?
Jesus spoke about reigning in people’s lives. Do you think your life would be any different if God reigned in your life? Why or why not? What would your life look like?
Challenge:
Name three qualities that you like about yourself.
Prayer:
Almighty God, I pray that I will make wise choices about who I choose to follow. Help me to be an influencer for good amongst my friends. Amen
Some upcoming religious festivals and holy days
November 24th – Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sikhs remember the day when the Guru gave up his life rather for his Faith.
November 25th – Day of the Covenant. A Baha’i Holy Day which celebrates the day that Abdu’l-Baha was appointed the Covenant
November 27th – Ascension of Abdu’l-Baha. The day that Abdu’l-Baha, the Servant of Baha, died.
November 30 – St. Andrew’s Feast Day. This day celebrates the Catholic patron saint of Romania, Ukraine, Barbados, Greece, Russia, and Scotland.
December 1st – First Sunday of Advent The start of the Christian year, four weeks before Christmas.
December 8th – Bodhi Day Some Buddhists celebrate Gautama’s attainment of Enlightenment on this day.
