Staffing
As we come closer to the end of term, we are able to plan for September and the exciting changes that it will bring. As part of this, we start preparing for our new classes and how they will be best supported. We are now thinking of how we can best support all of our children with the upcoming changes; they will meet their new staff in the coming weeks as they participate in a number of transition events. Next year's classes and staffing structure can be found here.

Goodbye
We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Mrs Ramage and Mr Arrugaeta at the end of term.
|
|
Mrs Ramage joined St Paul’s in September 2012. Over the last 11 years she has been a valued class teacher, teaching in a number of different year groups. Last year Mrs Ramage led the school production of Mary Poppins with great passion and success. Through her guidance, children were given the opportunity to explore the world of drama and develop their creative talents. Mrs Ramage has also had lead parts in the FOSPS pantomimes bringing a huge amount of enjoyment to both children and adults in the audience. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mrs Ramage all the best in her future endeavours and thank her for all her hard work during her time at St Paul’s.

Mr Arrugaeta joined us in April 2014 initially as a teaching assistant and then as a full-time Spanish teacher and, more recently, also taking on the role of a class teacher. Mr Arrugaeta has bought the beauty and richness of the Spanish language and culture to the children. Through his dynamic and interactive lessons, he has sparked a love for language and learning and broadened the children’s horizons. He has been instrumental in developing our Spanish curriculum and leaves this as a legacy to the school. I would like to express our thanks for his invaluable contributions to our school community including his parts he has played in the FOSPS pantomimes.

I wish both Mrs Ramage and Mr Arrugaeta the very best of luck in their new endeavours and thank them for their commitment and hard work during their time at St Paul’s. We hope they will continue to take part in many more pantomimes to come, so this is not a final goodbye!

Welcome
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Helen Dempsey and Ms Jenniffer Sabendran to our staffing team. Mrs Dempsey will be teaching in Year 2. Ms Sabendran will be teaching in Year 1 alongside Mrs Milios and in Year 3 alongside Miss Poplar.

Junior Production
It has been lovely to hear all the fantastic singing and view some very talented actors as rehearsals continue for the junior production, which as you will know this year is ‘Dream on’. The school production truly is a wonderful example of our community coming together to create something special which we can all be proud of. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday, more information to follow, I am sure those of you who will be in the audience will really enjoy the performance.

Strike Days
On Wednesday you will have received information regarding the strike days next week (5 & 7 July). If your child is in KS1 and not in school but will require a packed lunch on these days please let the school office know. This is also the case for any children who receive free school meals.

Photographs
Due to the strike days taking place next week we have had to move the production photos to Monday 3 July. Please make sure costumes are in school for the photos. Year 1 classes will also have their photos taken.

Coming soon…FOSPS’ Break the Rules Day
Our fun end of term FOSPS fundraiser will be ‘Break the Rules Day’ for the children. On Friday 14 July we are letting the children break up to 10 different rules. More information will follow about this exciting event!

End of Year Reports
You will be receiving your child's end of year reports on Wednesday 10 July through your parent portal account. Also attached will be your child's attendance report for the current academic year up to Friday 7 July. Year 1 and Year 4 parents will also receive their child's phonics and multiplication times tables check results respectively. Some Year 2 parents will also receive their child's phonics scores.
Please could you complete the Google Form (the link is at the bottom of the year end report) to confirm that you have received the various reports.

School lunches
Please make sure school lunches are booked at the beginning of each week.

Lateness
We have noticed the same children repeatedly arriving and being collected late several times a week. From next week, we will be speaking to individual parents reminding them of the school’s expectations set out in the home/school agreement. Children who are regularly late miss the start of lessons and this can lead to lost learning!

Sports Days
These were a super success. Both KS1 and KS2 sports days went well. It was great to see so many parents supporting their child and their house. Thank you to Miss Perrin for organising the day so well.
Congratulations to Radcliffe for being overall winners in both the KS1 and KS2 events.

Open hour
School will be open on the 17 July (3.45-4.45) for you to view your child’s work and visit classrooms. This will also be an opportunity for parents/carers to discuss end of year reports with current class teachers.

Gardening Club
Last Friday our Year 5 Gardening club held a sale of cuttings and herbs that they have taken and nurtured over the school year. Some of the cuttings were taken by the Year 3 members in the autumn term. Over £100 was raised and will be used to buy some gloves and tools for next year.

Dear Parents,
We go to gardening club every Friday after school and we enjoy it very much because we help the environment and bees, also because the school is much prettier with flowers but we never have time to get everything on our list done. So……we would love it if some parents could spare any time and come and help us. It could be every week, every fortnight or any time you can spare. You don’t have to be a gardening expert. If you are interested please email the school office. We could also do with a new lawn mower if anyone has a spare one they don’t need any more!

Windrush Day
Windrush Day takes place on 22 June each year. This is a day to celebrate the arrival of the Empire Windrush in Tilbury Docks, Essex, on 22 June 1948. The ship carried 1027 Caribbean people who had come to the UK to help rebuild the country after the Second World War. This year was the 75th anniversary and we have been marking this event with collective worships throughout the school. Year 6 have also been learning about it as part of their study of Black British History and created their own monument designs inspired by the National Windrush Monument which was unveiled at Waterloo in 2022. We will be visiting the Monument itself in the Autumn term as part of our celebration of Black History Month.

World Refugee Day
Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events and activities that celebrates the contribution of refugees to the UK and promotes better understanding of why people seek sanctuary. The theme of the week this year was compassion. Part of the week is the annual celebration on the 20th of World Refugee day, the international day organised by the United Nations to honour people who have been forced to flee. It is designed to celebrate and honour refugees from around the world. At St Paul’s we marked the events with a whole school collective worship so that children could understand more about refugees and some of the challenges they face. We also thought about the strength it would take to be a refugee and the rich diversity of the communities they come from.

Reception's animal artwork
Reception have been creating their own African animal artwork after learning about the artist Joseph Thinogo. They first used watercolours to paint a colourful background. Next, they chose either a zebra, cheetah or giraffe and either painted or printed their patterns. Finally, they cut out their animal shape and glued them onto their backgrounds. The children worked hard on their artwork and they all look wonderful!

Year 1's visit to the seaside
On Tuesday Year 1 went on their annual school trip to Walton-on-the-Naze. It was a perfect day - not too hot. The children had a super time culminating in a paddle in the sea and an ice lolly.

Year 2 Computing Lessons
This week, Year 2 have started the unit ‘Making Music’ in Computing. They have listened to a range of compositions and described what they heard using the vocabulary "pitch", "deep", "high", "volume" and "duration. They drew images based on what they had heard and then used the software ‘Music Lab’ to create their own instrumental sounds using mark making. They sounded wonderful!

Year 3B's multi-sports morning
3B took part in a multi-sports morning with children from St Andrew’s. This is the start of a sporting partnership between the two schools.

Children took part in: hockey, football, athletics, netball, tennis and cricket. The children were excellently coached by some children in Year 5.
The children had a brilliant morning and made some new friends.

Year 4's Multiplication Tables Check
Year 4 have now completed their Multiplication Tables Check. They have worked extremely hard to be able to recall their multiplication tables with fluency. We are so proud of all their hard work. In class and at home we have been practising on Times Tables Rock Stars. Congratulations Year 4!

Year 5's STEM projects
Year 5 have been working in small groups to create STEM projects related to the British Science Week theme, ‘Connections’. We presented our projects to the rest of the year group, explaining our challenges, the most interesting facts we found and explaining how our project relates to ‘connections’. It was a really exciting project and we all learnt a lot about DNA, space, bridges and electricity.

Year 6's exploration of the history of HMS Victory
As part of their School Journey to Bournemouth, Year 6 had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of British history by exploring the rich heritage of HMS Victory. Their visit provided them with first-hand experience of an historical artefact. Year 6 students have since been researching this famous warship and have diligently compiled a wealth of information. They organised their information using Google Slides to enhance the engagement of their audience. They then presented fascinating insights into the history of HMS Victory with the rest of the class. They discovered intriguing facts about its construction, commendable achievements in naval warfare, and the remarkable life of Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson.
